Sleep and Eat in Petra, Jordan

Whether is staying in a five-star hotel near the Dead Sea or a thousand-star camping site in the middle of the desert in Wadi Rum, Jordan is definitely a destination for every kind of traveler. In this post, I will list my favorite restaurants, hotels in Petra, Jordan. Most of the mentioned are the ones we tried while we were there.

Where to stay?

The most important thing while staying in Petra is to find the closest possible hotel to the Petra complex Visitor Centre. I would suggest a hotel within 30 min walk, but also if you have a rental car, you can park at Petra Visitor’s Free Car Park, which is just behind the Mövenpick Resort Petra. Mövenpick Resort Petra is my top one choice, it is closest to the Visitor Centre, literally outside the gate, and the rooms are extremely clean and has one of the highest standards of rooms, the interior of the hotel reminds me of Marrakesh Riads. Don’t forget to go for a drink on the top floor terrace. Petra Guest House is what I call the instagrammable hotel with a wide variety of choice for breakfast. The cave bar is a must-go place to have a drink and enjoy long exhausting days in Petra. It is also literally outside the gate of Petra. Sharah Mountains Hotel is such a clean hotel with great customer service, walking from here to Petra Visitor Centre is around 30 minutes, the hotel has air-conditioning, which during the wintertime can serve as a heater.

What to eat?

Always prepare food and drinks before entering Petra. During the summertime, carry enough amount of water with you as Petra can be extremely hot and sometimes it is difficult to find shade.

My Mom’s Recipe Restaurant

If you are looking for some local cuisine served promptly before watching the Petra Night Show. This is the place to go. Mixed grill with chips, tomato, onion salad, plus bread served with olive oil and thyme. Lemon and mint juice and fried balls of dough dipped in honey as dessert. All this for about 14 JD.

Reem Beladi Restaurant

Ready to go more local? With a full table food prepared by Mohammed for a reasonable price. No wonder many people add it to their must-try restaurant in Petra. Lemon juice with mint here is really refreshing.

SANABEL Sweets and Bakeries

Fancy something sweet? It is a local dessert store that offers every type of Arabic specialties. It is a must when visiting Jordan. Forget your diet, get baklava!
